Chapter History

Let this page be used for items of chapter historical interest, such as repertoires, rosters, news articles, ads we've placed, flyers we've distributed, show booklets, score sheets, etc.

Business items such as board minutes, officer reports, filings, music licenses, etc., should be maintained elsewhere.

Bruce Barker's initial contributions to chapter history from 2009 onward are here.  It includes all show booklets.

Within this Dropbox folder are Joel Schwartz's pictures and videos from 2001 through 2022, plus some documents and digitized VHS videos going back to the 1990s.  The size of that folder is 368 GB.

One 2013 document I've scanned is a "Pine Barons FAQ" containing the following Q&A:

When did the Pine Barons start?

On December 1, 1949,  a barbershop chapter was formed in Woodbury, New Jersey.  In 1955, the chapter moved to Audubon, New Jersey, and adopted that town's name.  In 1964, the chapter moved again, to the organization's present location, and the official name was changed to the 'Cherry Hill' chapter.  Meanwhile, another chapter had been chartered in 1961 in nearby Medford Lakes.  Six years later, when this chapter disbanded, many of its members transferred to Cherry Hill.  They brought their name with them and we have been 'The Pine Barons' of Cherry Hill ever since.  ... In 1973, the chorus first participated in the East Central Division barbershop contest, where the experience (and a third-place finish) hooked all our members on competitive singing.  It took eight long, hard years, but the chorus finally broke through the ranks of the incredibly tough Mid-Atlantic District and won the championship in 1980.  For the first time, we were qualified to sing in international competition.  In 1981, we sang in Detroit, Michigan, where we finished fifth out of the 850 chapters in the running when the competition began.  Since those days, the Pine Barons have seen many changes, as we've explored all the possibilities of barbershop harmony.  Our moment in the international spotlight has infused us with the pride that still beams out every time we strike the distinctive Pine Barons stance.
